The night, recapped
A small hall, a big moon, and a floor that never emptied. Here’s what made Sharad Poonam 2026 one to remember.
A small hall is a perfect size for garba — full floor, everyone close to the music. By the time the first circle formed at Scarborough Centennial Recreation Centre, there wasn’t a pass left to sell and there wasn’t much room left to stand still, either.
Hari Patel led the night for Navrang Music, joined on stage by co-singers Nalini and Sonal, for host Aastha Cultural Group. It was community singing in the truest sense — familiar garba rhythms, a hall full of neighbours and families, and the kind of energy you only get when everyone in the room came to dance.
And because it was Sharad Poonam — the brightest full moon of the season — the night closed the traditional way: with saffron doodh shared under the moonlight, sweet, warm, and unhurried after hours of dancing.
To everyone who came out, danced, sang along, and helped fill the hall: thank you. If you missed this one, the next one is already the goal — follow along so you hear about it first.

Music for the community, first. Hari sings mostly for community work and doesn’t charge a fee for it — he asks organizers to donate his fee instead. Event organizers arrange his travel for performances. Sharad Poonam in Scarborough was exactly that kind of night.
Why Sharad Poonam feels different
Sharad Poonam celebrates the full moon after Navratri — the night the moon is said to shine its brightest and kindest. Families gather, garba circles turn a little longer, and doodh-poha or saffron milk is traditionally placed in the moonlight and shared.
That’s the feeling this show carried: a full hall, one bright moon, and a room that felt like family.
